Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports of Arizona (PBISAz) was a capacity-building project developed by the Arizona Department of Education (ADE); Exceptional Student Services (ESS). Districts and schools worked with coordinators from the three Arizona universities to design, or enhance, school environments to ensure the most effective school-wide positive behavioral support (SWPBIS) was provided. PBISAz provided educators, administrators and other education professionals with technical assistance and evidence-based methods to assist schools in creating sustainable positive teaching and learning environments for all staff and students.
What Did PBISAz Provide to Districts and Schools?
PBISAz provided training and assistance in:
- Assessing of school-wide behavior management systems
- Integrating of current resources and strategies
- Setting up data collection systems
- Making Data-based decisions
- Developing and implementing of setting-specific management strategies
- Understanding and managing of individual student behavior
- Implementing of SWPBIS
- Developing ideas and strategies for long-term sustainability
- Ensuring integrity in implementation
- Developing positive student expectations and rules
- Conducting site-based training for staff, students, and parents
- Developing and enhancing incentives and consequences for student behavior
What did the state universities provide?
- Training and support related to each item identified above
- 7 one or two- day workshops and conferences over the course of two years
- University level undergraduate and graduate courses related to PBIS and SWPBIS
- On-going meetings, communication, and technical assistance

Please contact former PBISAz personnel to contract for Training. Many districts are using ARRA Stimulus funds, Title I, II and IV which can be use for Positive Behavior Supports to provide professional development services to school staff.
