PBISAz's Objectives

Last Update June 2010

PBISAz applied a strategic planning process approach, within School-Wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (SWPBIS) programs, in which policies and practices in each school system were considered along a continuum of behavior support (leadership, school-wide, non-classroom, classroom and individual organizational systems). We also emphasized the presentation, adoption, and sustained use of research-validated practices and systems, focusing not only on traditional skill-building and staff development activities, but also on increasing the capacity of management personnel (e.g., administrators, specialists, and school psychologists) and programs to sustain PBISAz effort over time. PBISAz maintained:

  1. National Ties with the National Center for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports at the University of Oregon.
  2. Statewide Ties via a statewide advisory board to guide the development of the infrastructure necessary to support the strategic planning process and continued development of SWPBIS programs in Arizona.
  3. School Partnerships with schools across Arizona and provide them with ongoing technical assistance to develop demonstration projects that illustrate exemplary SWPBIS.
  4. Online Courses and Training specific to the strategic planning process, the AzSET, SWPBIS, school-wide discipline issues, data collection and analysis, efficient systems, best-practices, functional behavioral assessment, individual behavior management, and academic interventions for teachers (preservice and inservice), administrators, and other education professionals to enable schools to have the capacity and expertise to provide local, high level technical assistance and professional development opportunities.
